How is it Made? Capra
goat milk soap is lovingly made in small batches in our farm kitchen using the
milk produced by our Alpine dairy goats. Lisa, Lucy and Sadie Mae
are handmilked twice a day for ten months each year. The are given a break
from milking each spring before their new kids are born.
In preparation for soapmaking, the milk is pasturized and frozen. This
natural moisturizer is then thawed and combined with a variety of melted
vegetable oils (e.g. olive oil, safflower oil).
While still warm, the oils are combined with the milk mixture and
poured into a large plastic bin. It then sets for 1-2 days before being
placed on racks to cure for at least four weeks.
"Milling" is the next part of the process and one that sets this soap apart from
most others. Milling means the soap is melted a second time. The
purpose is to provide you with a soap that lasts longer and holds it's scent
longer. Essential oils or fragrance oils are added to the melted mixture
once it's texture is smooth and soft. These sensational scents make the
soap a pure joy to use.
While still hot, the soap is poured into specially designed molds. These
form the soap into the beautiful shapes pictured on our ordering page.
The molds are then placed in the freezer for a few hours. Afterwards, the
beautiful finished soaps are placed on racks until dry.
Capra goat milk soaps make great gifts for:
housewarming presents
weddings
hostess gifts
anniversaries
new baby
holidays
pet sitters "just
because"
and other special occasions.
Soaps can be packaged individually in their own boxes topped off with a
beautiful Something Special From Wisconsin sticker.
What Makes Goat Milk Soap Special?
The beautiful Cleopatra was famous for her
milk baths. She recognized the moisturizing properties of this luxurious
liquid. In addition, all of the natural glycerin is retained in our soaps.
Glycerin is a humectant which draws moisture to your skin. Commercial
soaps typically syphon off this valuable ingredient and sell it to the
pharmaceutical or cosmetic industries. In addition, our 8 year old can
pronounce the names of all the ingredients found in these soaps (can you say
olive oil?).
